Presidential Fundraising: Early first quarter numbers fall flat compared to Clinton, Obama

Bernie Sanders Holds Significant Lead in Poll of Voters Under 30 :: Politics :: News :: Democratic Primary :: Paste

Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will participate in a town hall with the network on April 15. His campaign said the average contribution size was $20 - a figure that is significantly lower than O'Rourke's $43 average contribution size.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) of South Bend, Indiana, has raised $7 million from 159,000 donors.

He finished the first quarter of 2019 with $28 million in the bank, according to Shakir. 64% percent of Vermont's voters approve of Sanders and numerous polls place him among the most popular politicians in America.

Besides Mr Sanders, Senator Kamala Harris of California put up an impressive 12 million dollar haul.

Sanders appeared in a Fox town hall during his 2016 primary campaign.

Sanders, whose left-wing populism propelled his strong challenge in 2016 to Hillary Clinton for the party's nomination that year, now leads declared presidential candidates in Democratic polling.

The first quarter numbers - an important marker for a candidate's strength among supporters and in their own campaign organizational abilities - have been trickling in for the Democratic contenders.

When Beto O'Rourke, a former congressman from Texas, entered the race, he raised $6.1 million in a day. She never released a first-day fundraising total after she launched her exploratory committee December 31, but, based on filings by the fundraising site Act Blue, it has been estimated at as little as $300,000. Sanders' campaign says the senator got 88% of his money from donors who contributed $200 or less.

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke is facing scrutiny amid revelations that his previous political campaigns paid around $110,000 to an Internet company that he founded and his wife ran.

The Sanders campaign has raised $32 million in total, including the $14 million that the campaign started with reported CBS News' Emily Tillett. Plus, he did it with more small donors than any other candidate so far, leading the pack among the sought-after demographic.

The campaign fell short of its goal of collecting 1 million contributions by the deadline, and instead brought in about 900,000 contributions from its donors.

Shakir emphasized that most of Sanders' contributions came from small-dollar donors who are likely to give again later in the campaign. Traditional fundraising isn't going away, Giffin said in a recent interview, "but that grassroots money can more than make up for it, and candidates have to prove they can do that".
