Pakistan accuses India of plotting fresh military attack

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said his government had reliable information that India was planning an act of aggression against them between April 16 and 20

"India rejects as an irresponsible and preposterous statement by Pakistan Foreign Minister that it will attack Pakistan again", the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. "According to our information, the action could be taken between April 16-20", the paper quoted Qureshi as saying.

"The foreign secretary invited the ambassadors of permanent members of UN Security Council and apprised them of Pakistan's apprehensions on developments taking place in India", he added.

India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - which Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has previously blamed for igniting "hysteria" - is now running for reelection in India.

The foreign minister said he made the allegations "with responsibility", arguing the aggression aimed to raise "diplomatic pressure" against his country. "BJP's attempt to win elections through whipping up war hysteria and false claims of downing a Pak F-16 has backfired with US Defence officials also confirming that no F-16 was missing from Pakistan's fleet".

US-based Foreign Policy magazine, citing USA officials, said all of Pakistan's F-16 combat jets had been accounted for, contradicting an Indian air force assessment that it had shot down one of the jets.

Accusing Pakistan of doing little to stop the terrorists from operating on its territory, India launched airstrikes into Pakistani-controlled territory in Kashmir on 26 February, in what was followed by a dogfight between the two countries' warplanes over Kashmir.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday asked the Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia to convey to his leadership that there should be no misadventure against Pakistan, as there was credible intelligence that plans were afoot for another act of aggression.

Some in India said between 200 and 300 people were killed in the strikes on Jaish-e-Mohammed. A Pakistan foreign ministry report on evidence provided by India raised further doubts about the veracity of the intelligence.

The allegations of an imminent Indian attack came on the same day Pakistan released the first batch of about 360 Indian prisoners.
