Walton -- Lonzo may not return to Lakers this year

Report: Lakers Sign 33-Year-Old Andre Ingram to 10-Day Contract from South Bay Lakers

Ingram was diagnosed with Deep Venous Thrombosis in his right arm.

Ingram was averaging 25.6 points and 6.9 rebounds in his last 10 games.

Ball hasn't played since January 19, and Walton said Friday that the point guard is "not close" to returning despite an initial diagnosis of his injury suggesting he would be back by now.

Ingram had missed the past two games after Walton said he had difficulty raising his arm without pain. "And where we're at now, and not looking like he's close to being able to play yet, then, it's nearly getting to the point where the true value comes from, 'Let's get him as healthy as possible so he has however many months this summer to really expand and keep working on his game'".

"They have to rebuild this roster, right?"

According to Second Spectrum data, Ingram averaged 1.15 points per direct isolation play since January 28, when the Anthony Davis trade demand put his future with the Lakers into question.

With Ball and Ingram now out and James on a minutes restriction, there is a lot of playing time available. Bosh had to retire due to blood clotting issues.

Kyle Kuzma, the Lakers' second-leading scorer with 18.8 points per game, also is out this week with a sprained ankle. Once Ball is given medical clearance to resume basketball activities, he can start preparing for his first fully healthy NBA offseason. If Ingram is still off the practice court come early August, the Lakers may miss their opportunity to include him in trade talks, causing them to lose out on AD or other stars. Previous year he dealt with a knee injury and was unable to get much work done during the offseason.

The Lakers have been having a rough go of late, with the team in serious danger of missing the playoffs.
