North Korea may suspend nuclear talks with 'gangster-like' U.S.: diplomat

The U.S. has said since then that it will only accept its definition of "complete denuclearization" - the total dismantlement of North Korea's weapons of mass destruction program. She said Washington had thrown away a golden opportunity at the summit and warned that Kim might rethink a moratorium on missile launches and nuclear tests, AP reported.

The North´s warning came amid concerns over its satellite rocket launch site, where some rebuilding activity has been observed in recent weeks, triggering global alarm that Pyongyang might be preparing a long-range missile or space launch.

Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui told diplomats and foreign correspondents that the talks between the two nations last month broke down when Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton created an "atmosphere of hostility and mistrust".

The US had hoped the summit would demonstrate the success of Trump's diplomatic gamble with North Korea, but instead the meeting ended with no joint agreement, after Kim demanded all US sanctions be lifted on his country.

North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui said Friday that Trump was willing to talk, but was influenced by uncompromising demands by Pompeo and Bolton. -North Korea negotiations over the nuclear issue, following the surprise no-deal conclusion of last month's summit in Hanoi.

Pyongyang has long sought a summit with the U.S.to reflect what the regime sees as its status as a regional military power. "The failure of the talks came despite what Choe described as a "mysteriously wonderful" chemistry" between Trump and Kim. USA officials explained that decommissioning Yongbyon would not do enough to irreversibly end North Korea's nuclear missile program, while the concessions North Korea demanded would effectively unravel the sanctions regime.

"Just in the past hour, I spoke with my South Korean counterpart and we've discussed their reaction and our reaction, but I would like to speak further within USA government before we respond", Bolton told reporters on the White House North Lawn Friday. Her comments reflect genuine NK frustration, but also seems to be playing hard to get & trying to force United States to make move. "We are hopeful that we can continue to have conversations and negotiations".

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, meanwhile, said earlier this week that Trump left the Vietnam summit without striking a deal with Kim because he didn't feel that what was on the table was enough.

The summit also saw the US reportedly give the North Korean leader a written and expanded American definition of "complete denuclearization".

"We are not going to do denuclearization incrementally", Biegun said. "I have every expectation that we'll be able to continue to do that". "So that's Chairman Kim's word".

The spokeswoman said the ministry had not confirmed why the North Korean officials decided not to attend.

Talks in Hanoi collapsed when Mr Trump refused to lift any sanctions until North Korea was completely denuclearised. "I think Chairman Kim understands that".

In Beijing, Premier Li Keqiang urged patience and further dialogue between North Korea and the United States. "In any situation, our government will endeavour for the restart of North Korea-U.S. negotiations", South Korea's presidential Blue House said in a statement.

"We should not concede to North Korea's threats", he stressed.

At the State Department on Monday, Pompeo said that the North Korean offer in Hanoi "simply didn't rise to the level that was acceptable given what they were asking for in exchange".
