Liverpool legend backs Sadio Mane for golden boot

While Sturridge may have a better scoring record, injuries and form have meant that he has rarely been a regular starter for the club, whereas Heskey was a fixture of the team during his four full seasons at Anfield, missing only 14 Premier League games during that time.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has explained why Senegalese star, Sadio Mane, is now doing better than Egyptian forward, Mohamed Salah.

Mane's strike in Sunday's 2-1 win over Fulham saw him move level with Salah as the Reds' top scorer this season on 20 goals.

Considering his importance to the Reds, it's nearly inconceivable that Liverpool would ever sell Mohamed Salah in the summer, especially with qualification to the Champions League next season already a near guarantee.

"They deserved a goal but we deserved three points".

Manchester City's schedule in April is hectic, with their FA Cup semi-final now injected into the mix that will also include two Champions League quarter-finals ties against Tottenham and a Premier League match at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

Mane scored again at the weekend as the Reds beat Fulham, notching his 11th strike in as many games in the process.

"Sadio played pretty much always like this but now he is always in the right spot in the right moment".

"He is in a really good moment, of course", Klopp told Liverpool's official website.

"He's just rather unlucky, where Sadio is lucky in the moment - he is in brilliant shape, that's true".

The fact that Liverpool now sit ahead of City in the table, albeit having played a game more, is nothing short of sensational when you consider the level the Citizens have produced over the past season and a half.
