LeBron gets emotional after passing MJ in career points

Kyrie Irving

With a left-handed layup in the second quarter, LeBron James on Wednesday surpassed Michael Jordan in career National Basketball Association points.

Channing Frye: "If I just shot 14, 15 times a game...." I watched him from afar, wanted to be like MJ, wanted to shoot fadeaways like MJ, wanted to stick my tongue out on dunks like MJ, wanted to wear my sneakers like MJ. "It's just insane, to be honest".

The debate will continue about who is the best of all time, which is an endless discussion, but those on James' side have statistics to back up their argument.

After the game, James reflected on reaching 32,311 points. "You suck. You owe me a bottle of wine". Passing Jordan, however, was extra special for James who has been open about idolizing Jordan as he was growing up.

LeBron James will reportedly be placed on a minutes restriction of 28-32 minutes per game for the remainder of this season and could possibly be rested during the Lakers' remaining back-to-back sets, according to Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.

The actual design of James' Nike LeBron 16 paid respect to Jordan by incorporating the cement theme made famous on the Air Jordan 3.

The 34-year-old James still has a ways to go to catch Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928) and Kobe Bryant (33,643) for the top mark.

James hit the free throw to finish the three-point play and ended his night with 31 points. He added a lay-in and jumper to match Jordan early in the second quarter and then broke the record soon after. The Lakers' star said that he would really have to be convinced to do that by his head coach, Luke Walton, and the team's front office. He also averages the seventh most minutes per game with 35.6 minutes per.
