European deal to help UK banks manage Brexit

UK and EU guarantee flights will operate in case of no-deal Brexit

This week Labour said it would back a second referendum in order to try to prevent either a "no deal" or May's deal.

If Mrs May's deal is not passed, there will be a vote on leaving the European Union without a deal on Wednesday, with a further ballot on whether to delay Brexit beyond the scheduled date of March 29 the following day. So the choice is the Prime Minister's deal or a customs union'.

Labour MP Chris Bryant.

"We are happy to offer further clarifications and further assurances if that can help the United Kingdom government get the agreement over the line", Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said Monday. "It is not what we want, but it is what we have been forced into".

The money, which will be spread over seven financial years to 2025-2026, is a "desperate bribe", shadow chancellor John McDonnell claimed.

"I think there are something like 60-70 Labour members of Parliament who feel as strongly as I do against a second referendum", said Flint, who represents an area of Britain which voted to leave the European Union at the 2016 referendum.

He predicted that in the votes that follow, a no-deal Brexit would be taken off the table, and the government would be instructed to seek an extension to talks.

Lord Stevenson of Balmacara, the shadow global trade minister, said: "It is surely time for ministers to abandon their red lines and for the government to back this proposal".

With MPs due to vote on the PM's deal again by 12 March, ministers have offered the following commitments.

"We are trying to find a junction between our positions and we are not there yet", the source added.

Parliament rejected May's deal in January, largely because of concerns about the so-called backstop, which is created to prevent the need for physical border checks along the Irish border if negotiators fail to agree on a free-trade deal. "The third requirement is a clear exit route".

While the group didn't detail how its goal should be achieved, it said the change must be contained in a treaty-level clause that "unambiguously overrides" the text of the current agreement.

In a separate development, Graham Brady, the chairman of the 1922 Committee of rank-and-file Tory lawmakers, expressed optimism that a breakthrough on the backstop is near.

Writing in the Mail on Sunday, Sir Graham said: "The whole country is exhausted of vacillation and delay".

"Labour pledged in 2017 that we will establish a network of regional development banks that will be dedicated to delivering the finance that our small businesses co-operatives and innovative projects need across the whole country".

He suggested a "legally binding guarantee that the backstop is temporary" is still needed.
