Christchurch attack changes everything for team security - New Zealand Cricket

Four suspects have been arrested in connection with Fridays attacks

The Bangladesh cricket team was in Christchurch for their third and final Test of a three-match series, which was scheduled to begin Saturday.

Six people have been reported dead, New Zealand local media reported and they also reported of a second shooting at another mosque in Christchurch itself. "The players heard shots being fired, they saw people tumbling out of the gates and ducked under the bus". Players and team support staff meant to pray at the mosque before continuing to the ground to join teammates and coaching staff.

It is to be noted that the Bangladesh Cricket team is now in New Zealand for an ODI and a Test series against the hosts.

The President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hassan said, "We'll demand proper security wherever our team goes in future. We (were) extremely lucky.never want to see this things happen again.pray for us".

England's cricket team was provided security equal to that of a head of a state when they visited Bangladesh in 2016, months after one of the worst extremist attacks on foreigners in a Dhaka cafe.

If witnesses are to be believed, the gunmen were wearing black attires and helmets when they carried out the act of violence at the Al Noor mosque and the Linwood Islamic Centre, consisting of at least 100 people at that time. "I couldn't put it into words how I'm feeling right now", said Williams, wiping away tears as he spoke. "We ask all mosques nationally to shut their doors, and advise that people refrain from visiting these premises until further notice".

"Arrangements are being made for the return of the Bangladesh team home as soon as possible", NZC said in a statement.

ESPN reporter Mohammad Isam, who is with the team in New Zealand, shared footage of some of the players after the attack.

New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush confirmed that police had apprehended one person, but said police were unsure if there were other shooters.

"Entire team got saved from active shooters", Iqbal tweeted.

The Christchurch mass shootings will have far-reaching implications for hosting sporting events in New Zealand and elsewhere, according to New Zealand Cricket CEO David White, who said the impression of the country being a "safe haven is gone".

At the Singapore Airlines check-in counter, players of the Bangladesh cricket team all looked serious and edgy. Frightening experience and please keep us in your prayers, ' Tamim said in his twitter account.

"Ban cricket in New Zealand as it was banned in Pakistan earlier.!"

"Had we reached even three or four minutes earlier, we probably would have been inside the mosque".

Visitors head home after almost getting caught up in the terror attack that left 49 people dead, as questions rise whether New Zealand is safe from acts of extreme violence or terrorist attacks.
