Zach Thomas does not make Hall of Fame cut

Champ Bailey, Ed Reed, Tony Gonzalez among finalists for Pro Football HOF

This is his first year of eligibility to be a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee.

The 18 finalists will be narrowed down by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee on February 2. While with the Chiefs, Gonzalez was named to 10 Pro Bowls and earned five All-Pro nods.

One of the greatest Texas Tech football players ever, Zach Thomas, saw his Pro Football Hall of Fame chances take a significant hit Thursday when he was not named a finalist for enshrinement in 2019.

Senior committee nominee Johnny Robinson and contributors finalists Gil Brandt and Pat Bowlen are also under consideration for induction into the HOF but are not part of the modern-era class. He led the league in interceptions twice, including 1998 with New England, and also made the All-2000s team. He finished his career in 1999 after his lone season with the New York Jets. Law went into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2014. He got them to a 13-3 team where they lost in the AFC Championship Game to the Steelers and ended up finishing his career there in the Ring of Honor.

Gonzalez, a 14-time Pro Bowl player and six-time All-Pro tight end with the Chiefs and Falcons, retired as the NFL's second all-time leader in receptions with 1,325. Over his career, Reed had 64 interceptions for 1,590 return yards and seven touchdowns. The initial list included former Rams head coach Dick Vermeil, wide receivers Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce and Henry Ellard, linebacker London Fletcher, defensive lineman La'Roi Glover, and offensive line coach Jim Hanifan. Coryell, who coached the high-powered offenses of the Cardinals and Chargers in the 1970s and '80s, is a five-time finalist.

Atwater, a safety, was a finalist in 2016, and Lynch was a finalist for the past five years.
