Manafort Suffering From Depression, Anxiety Due to Conditions in Jail - Filing

Can you redact that suit jacket though

It's a major acknowledgment from the Mueller team that their investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election is finding potential contact between at least one Trump campaign official and the Kremlin.

The specifics of the Mueller allegations were not previously known publicly, having been blacked out in a heavily redacted December 7 filing by the Russian Federation collusion prosecutor's team. A new court filing says Manafort is suspected of having shared polling data with a business associate who has links to the Russian intelligence service.

Manafort, 69, was convicted in August in a separate case in Virginia, for evading taxes on $16m earned as a political consultant in Ukraine and lying to banks to get loans.

Moments ago, a court filing was unsealed in the case alleging that Paul Manafort had violated his plea agreement by lying to federal agents.

Prosecutors have previously said they believe Kilimnik has ties to the military intelligence unit the GRU, which allegedly hacked the Democratic Party and leaked damaging emails while Manafort ran Trump's campaign operation.

The defense lawyers said Manafort suffers from depression and anxiety, has had little contact with his family and, on days when he met with investigators, was awakened before dawn to have hourslong interviews with little time to prepare for the questioning.

Manafort's legal team did not respond to an inquiry after midnight Tuesday about whether the document was filed, nor did a spokesperson for the special counsel's office.

The information was accidentally revealed in a defence filing that was meant to be redacted.

In this photo from June 21, 2017, special counsel Robert Mueller departs after a meeting on Capitol Hill in Washington.

Mueller's filing said Manafort "breached his plea agreement in numerous ways by lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation", including about his interactions with Russian associate Konstantin Kilimnik.

Manafort and Kilimnik were charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice by attempting to tamper with witnesses after Manafort had been already been indicted for other crimes. Manafort owed Deripaska almost $20 million at the time from a failed business venture in Ukraine. Prosecutors say Manafort acknowledged the meeting only after being told that they were in the same city on the same day. The US and European Union have imposed sanctions on Russian Federation over that move as well as the country's support for separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine.

The lawyers said Ukraine-related matters "simply were not at the forefront of Mr Manafort's mind during the period at issue".

The filing did not indicate whether the polling information involved internal campaign data or when exactly it was provided.

At the time Manafort's lawyers said their client never intentionally provided incorrect information to prosecutors, but asked the judge for time to consider whether they wanted to contest Mueller's allegations or proceed to sentencing.

The first alleged misstatement identified in the Special Counsel's submission (regarding a text exchange on May 26, 2018) related to a text message from a third-party asking permission to use Mr. Manafort's name as an introduction in the event the third-party met the President.

Manafort has always been in the crosshairs of the Mueller team, having been charged early on in the Russian Federation investigation. They say the allegations can be addressed during the presentencing process.
