Ex-kidnapping victims: Jayme Closs needs space, time to heal

Gordon Wisconsin. Nutter walking her dog near the cabin she owns with her husband Forrest on January 10 encountered Jayme Closs coming out of nearby woods

For those that didn't even know Jayme, they're even relieved to welcome her home. "So, we're looking for receipts, where the suspect may have been over the last 88 days".

In anticipation of the crime, the suspect cut his hair so he wouldn't leave behind physical evidence in Closs' home, Barron County Sheriff Christopher Fitzgerald said.

Taken at knifepoint from her Salt Lake City bedroom in 2002, Smart said that during her captivity, she felt like "life had been stolen from me, all the dreams and aspirations had been stolen". Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says Patterson extensively plotted the attack to the point where he shaved his head to avoid leaving forensic evidence behind. Patterson quit, saying he was moving from the area, according to the company.

Someone blasted open the door of James and Denise Closs' home near Barron with a shotgun in October, gunned the couple down and made off with their 13-year-old daughter, Jayme Closs.

Speaking to Fox News, Jayme's aunt Kelly Engelhardt said, "We are beyond words".

Jayme's cousin, Angela De Andriano, is managing the gofundme account Jayme is Home - Help Heal her Heart.

Patterson's lawyers Charles Glynn and Richard Jones said in a statement they consider the situation "very tragic" and that they are relying on the court system to treat their client fairly.

The investigation suggested that the suspect did not know any family members at the Closs home nor had he been in touch with them, but allegedly went there with the objective of kidnapping the teen, Fitzgerald said.

"Honestly, that was one of the hardest things for me, because once I was rescued and I got home with my family, I thought I could get back and go back to where I left off, and it took me a long time to realize that was just not possible", Smart said.

Almost three years ago, Patterson worked for one day at the same meat products facility where Jayme's parents worked - the Jennie-O Turkey Store plant in Barron. "It was a lot of sleepless nights".

It had been almost three months since she went missing from her home in Barron, where her parents were found dead.

A picture circulated around social media of Closs smiling next to her aunt Jennifer Smith.

"We want her to feel comfortable and then after a while, she probably won't want the attention so it'll probably come down but it'll be up for a while because we're thrilled", Seelig said.

The sheriff said he didn't know whether Jayme had been physically abused.

"I'm lost and I don't know where I am, and I need help", Jayme told Nutter. Officers arrested Patterson minutes later.

Patterson, who is unemployed with no criminal record, was scheduled for an initial court appearance on Monday when homicide and kidnapping charges are expected to be filed.

Mr Fitzgerald noted police information was "limited" and Jayme was still being interviewed, but she had been medically cleared and released from hospital.

"She said that this person's name was Jake Patterson, 'he killed my parents and took me,"' Kristin Kasinskass said.

Jayme Closs, 13, managed to escape a remote cabin where she had been held against her will after her parents were killed.

"I don't know her but I have been praying for her. She did not go into detail about how she got out of the house or anything like that".

Local teacher Jeanne Nutter was walking her dog when she found Jayme on Thursday. "What a great feeling to have her home".
