Buccaneers trade for ex-Cardinals coach Bruce Arians

Cardinals fans should have mixed feelings about the Bucs hiring Bruce Arians

As a former Bucs coach himself who still lives in Tampa and worked with Bruce Arians nearly 30 years ago with the Chiefs, Dungy, now an National Football League analyst with NBC, says Tampa Bay made a good call in luring his former roommate out of retirement.

"Obviously I'll have a big hand in it", Arians said Wednesday on the Rich Eisen Show. "He knows offense, and he knows how to relate to people". In a press conference, General Manager Jason Licht said a new coach would have the opportunity to bring his own staff on board.

"This is a great group". "I'm not about building; I'm about reloading".

Arians is the latest in a line of successors that includes Raheem Morris, Greg Schiano, Lovie Smith and Koetter, who landed the job in 2016 primarily because ownership felt his offensive expertise would accelerate the growth of young quarterback Jameis Winston. He was the architect of the Cardinals' seventh and fifth-ranked scoring defenses in Arizona in 2013 and 2014.

One year into retirement, Bruce Arians is reportedly set to return to coaching and take over as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also led the team to its second ever NFC Championship appearance in 2015.

His defensive coordinator will be Todd Bowles, who was his DC for the first two seasons he was in Arizona.

Bowles (defensive coordinator) - who was just fired as the New York Jets' head coach - Goodwin (offensive coordinator) and Leftwich (quarterbacks coach) were on Arians' staff in Arizona.

The Bucs are counting on Arians to help Winston realize his potential.
