Brazil's President Open To Possibility Of U.S. Military Base, Expresses Russia Concerns

Sometimes called the "Trump of the tropics" for his blustery style and disdain of multilateral forums, he said in the same TV interview he was open to discussing the opening of a U.S. military base in Brazil.

The sweep will target contractors deemed sympathetic to the centrist and left-wing parties that have ruled Brazil for most of the period since the country shucked off military dictatorship in 1985.

Brazilian new President Javier Bolsonaro said in a television interview on Thursday that he intends to move his country's embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, while voicing the importance of any reprisals that Arab countries might take against Brasil.

"We have a long cooperation, especially with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration). Brazil has American technology to monitor borders and could obtain new technologies", Da Silva told The Associated Press.

The comment confirmed an earlier statement by Netanyahu, who said on Sunday that Bolsonaro said it was a matter of "when, not if" the Brazilian embassy would move to Jerusalem.

A Brazilian judge last month twice issued injunctions against the deal, but both times was overruled by a higher court.

Troops from Brazil's National Police Force are being deployed in the northeastern state of Ceara with orders to end a wave of violent attacks by criminal gangs against banks, buses and shops, local officials said Saturday.

In one attack, explosives badly damaged a pillar supporting a flyover road in the town of Caucaia, just to the west of Fortaleza.

Gangs across Brazil typically carry out such actions to spread fear and in response to police crackdowns on the streets or in prisons.

Embraer shares were down more than 5 percent in late afternoon trading.

Then he expressed wariness about a multi-billion-dollar planned tie-up between planemaker Embraer and U.S. giant Boeing, sending the Brazilian company's shares diving and calling into question his market-friendly campaign rhetoric. About in foreign policy.
