The popular movie involves characters being forced to engage in various activities while wearing blindfolds.

Though some fans have began participating in what they call the Bird Box challenge, Netflix has asked fans not not to hurt themselves in the process.

Needless to say, there are a lot of fails.

Although Netflix was undoubtedly trying to be helpful (and ward off potential lawsuits), the post may have inspired some Twitter users to attempt the challenge.

The internet's capacity to bring out the stupid in people got another boost this week with the arrival of the "Bird Box Challenge".

To all those injuring themselves doing this challenge, Malorie looks at you through her blindfold with pity.

On Tuesday, Kardashian West went on Twitter to let her followers know she was watching the Sandra Bullock-starring film, telling her fans: "I really like it".

Netflix, it seemed, had naively assumed people who subscribed to a streaming video service and watched dozens of films per month didn't need to be reminded not to try the stunts at home.

Fans of the film quickly started sharing their own "Bird Box" experiences, including a group of friends in NY who were seen walking down the street blindfolded.

And a bunch of other people took recreating the movie to an extreme.

See how people on social media have been reacting to Bird Box in the video below.

"Bird Box" is directed by Susanne Bier, based on Josh Malerman's 2014 novel of the same name.

2019 just started, and it's a hot mess already.
