Some People Think Deontay Wilder Knocked Tyson Fury Down Illegally

Deontay Wilder left connects with Tyson Fury of England during a WBC heavyweight championship boxing match Saturday Dec. 1 2018 in Los Angeles

Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury fought to a split draw Saturday night, with Wilder retaining his WBC heavyweight title after knocking down his British challenger twice.

Lewis was also critical of Wilder's performance and believes the American relies too much on his vaunted power, having secured 39 knockouts in his 40 professional fights before facing Fury.

"I think with the two knockdowns I definitely won the fight", said Wilder afterwards.

Judge Robert Tapper scored the fight 114-110 for Fury, while Alejandro Rochin favoured Wilder 115-111.

Neither man was overly upset by the verdict after a compelling bout in front of a frenzied Hollywood crowd. Fury opened with a hard right, but Wilder flushed him with a devastating right-left combination that put Fury down.

Following the decision, both men said they thought they did enough to eke out the win. After two tune-up fights, he agreed to challenge Wilder in America for the only belt Fury didn't win off Klitschko, the WBC belt. But Fury went down again - and almost everybody thought it was for good.

Fury (27-0-1, 19 KOs), 30, of England, clowned around by putting his hands behind his back and bobbing his head, but he eventually began landing jabs to the head and body as Wilder was wild with his punches. From our side we want that undisputed fight ASAP, and that's Deontay Wilder in April 13 at Wembley. "We defended a little better than in the last match, of course".

Wilder also sent Fury to the floor in the ninth round with a right hand behind the ear and a short left hook.

The fight went the way that the Englishman wanted and Wilder was more defensive than he has ever been, only really daring to come out of his shell in the final 10 seconds of each round.

"I fought back from suicide, from mental anxiety and depression".

Speaking as a pundit for BT Sport Box Office, Lewis said: "They need to get some good judges, these judges were bad".

Late in the round, Fury threw his hands in the air and wagged his tongue, imploring Wilder to come at him. "At the count of six, Fury, who stands at 6'9" 256 pounds, rose to his feet. "It was a great fight and let's do it again".

"In a rematch, I can only imagine that he will be even better prepared". "That's what we proved tonight, and I'm ready to do it again". Opinions were divided on the judges' decision, however, with some claiming that Fury was robbed of one of the greatest comebacks in history despite two knockdowns.

According to CompuBox punch statistics, Wilder landed 71 of 430 shots (17 percent), and Fury landed 84 of 327 (26 percent).
