Senator Lindsey Graham believes Saudi prince 'orchestrated' murder

Republican senator Lindsey Graham said there's a

The prosecutor's office has concluded there is "strong suspicion" that Saud al-Qahtani and General Ahmed al-Asiri, both removed from their positions in October, were among the planners of Khashoggi's Oct. 2 killing at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, the officials said. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.; Marco Rubio, R-Fla.; Ed Markey, D-Mass.; Todd Young, R-Ind.; and Chris Coons, D-Del.

Imad Salamey, a Lebanese political analyst, told The Media Line that despite the recent bipartisan condemnations of the crown prince, "internal conflicts between the two political parties, as well as disputes between pro- and anti-Trump people have been deepening".

Report Gina Haspel was held behind closed doors, and senators have publicly indicated what details point to the involvement of the Prince to murder.

The diplomat returned to Riyadh in early October shortly after the killing of the dissident Saudi journalist at the kingdom´s consulate in Istanbul. Pompeo said there was "no direct reporting" connecting the crown prince to the murder, and Mattis said there was "no smoking gun" making the connection.

USA intelligence assessments and experts say it's unlikely the killing could have happened without the crown prince's knowledge.

"Let me just put it this way: I think if [the crown prince] was in front of a jury, he would have a unanimous verdict in about 30 minutes", he said. They did so against the advice of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who said USA involvement in the Yemen conflict is central to the Trump administration's broader goal of containing Iranian influence in the Middle East.

Corker said it would be "difficult" to come up with legislation that could pass the Senate.

"They have been a great ally in our very important fight against Iran", Trump said in the statement.

US intelligence officials have concluded that the crown prince must have at least known of the plot, but Trump has been reluctant to pin the blame.

However, a USA official told NBC that Khalid is not expected to be expelled from the country and would continue on as ambassador.

Khalid's return to the US comes just one day after a closed US Senate briefing by Central Intelligence Agency chief Gina Haspel.

Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, who supported the resolution, said last week that the Trump administration's weak response to Khashoggi's murder had damaged the nation's credibility overseas.

The visit comes "without any consideration of principles and values and without taking into consideration Algeria's reputation and its real, firm and permanent interests", he added.

Graham, who was one of the sponsors of Wednesday's U.S. Senate resolution and has become one of the president's most vocal allies, said there may not be a "smoking gun", but that there was a "smoking saw", a reference to a bone saw that investigators said was used to cut up Khashoggi's body.
