Kansas City’s RB Kareem Hunt fired after kicking and pushing woman

The Kansas City Chiefs on Friday released Hunt after TMZ published a video showing the Pro Bowl running back shoving and kicking a female at a Cleveland hotel during a February incident.

During a live interview with ESPN on Sunday, the NFL's reigning rushing champion also said that league officials never spoke to him about the incident while conducting their own investigation. Riddick sees the Chiefs as not messing around after taking swift action by releasing Hunt.

Hunt did speak with the Chiefs and that seems to be part of the reason why he was released Friday night as the Chiefs learned he lied to them about the incident.

The ex-Kansas City Chiefs star running back was not arrested over the incident and the victim declined to press charges, police said at the time. With trembling emotion in his voice, Hunt apologized for his mistake and pleaded to the Chiefs to reconsider their decision.

"If I could, I would want to tell her right now that I am sorry for my actions right now", Hunt said.

Kareem Hunt gave his first interview since being released by the Kansas City Chiefs following TMZ releasing a video that showed the running back shoving and kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel in February.

Hunt said he was raised right by his family and that the incident was out of character for him.

The league reiterated that point in a new statement Sunday. Police said they did not see the video until it was made public. "He has a long life to live, this will be a defining moment, but it shouldn't be the moment that defines you". Because the Chiefs waved Hunt, he has entered waivers and, if a team claims him, the league will announce that move on Monday at 4 p.m.

He will face a six-game suspension for breach of National Football League guidelines for the incident described above, but sources are claiming that this will be extended due to a separate incident in which Hunt allegedly punched a man in an OH vehicle park. He said he met the girl that night but did not specify what the disagreement - which escalated to Hunt pushing her to the ground and then kicking her - was about. "I made a bad decision at that time". And with a soft schedule down the stretch, including two games against the Raiders, there is plenty of time for their offense to adjust to life without Hunt in the backfield.

"I'm asking for forgiveness". I think I deserve it because if you really know me, and everybody that I'm really close to - I've had really close women who are friends - I'm so respectful to everyone.

"But we have a strong support system, both with the coaching staff and also with our player development that works with young guys and talks to them about the situations that they want to be in", the chairman said.

"There was definitely some things that were said and did that I did not like, and that's not an excuse", Hunt said.
