Engagement ring lost moments before proposal found by police

The NYPD released the following

Police in NY are hunting a couple who got engaged in Times Square on Friday but lost the ring down a grate.

"WE HAVE YOUR RING!" the NYPD's Midtown North Precinct tweeted, after the jewelry was recovered.

The NYPD said Saturday an unidentified couple sought police assistance at 11:55 p.m. after the man, attempting to propose, dropped the ring approximately eight feet into a utility grate near Times Square.

When the couple asked police for help, emergency service officers could not immediately find the ring - but continued looking after the couple left.

They are now asking the public to help them find the newly engaged couple.

Eventually, they found it.

The good news is that officers from the New York Police Department clearly have a romantic side and, more importantly, access to the grate, so could get it out quite easily.

Police have an urgent message for the couple who lost their engagement ring in Times Square: We have the ring.

Police released surveillance images and footage of the couple trying to retrieve the ring.
