Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury fight to draw in heavyweight title bout

Fans fuming at split decision as Deontay Wilder retains WBC heavyweight title

Judge Robert Tapper scored the fight 114-112 for Fury, while Alejandro Rochin favored Wilder 115-111.

The ring is ready for Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder to clash in the WBC Belt heavyweight title fight this afternoon.

Wilder (40-0-1, 39 KOs) was making his eighth title defense. The 6-foot-9 Fury spent almost every moment of the fight nimbly avoiding Wilder's punches in a masterful display - except for the two moments when the 6-foot-7 Wilder viciously knocked him to the canvas.

Fury also said he hopes to arrange a rematch.

He had earlier frustrated Wilder with his jab and a succession of accurate right hands, but the American's late attack salvaged his WBC belt on the scorecards. "I came out slow".

"If he'd had another two fights, a bit of a step-up in class - but I still think he's going to win on points".

He will be reminded that Tyson Fury is a most hard man to encounter and that Deontay Wilder is a terribly risky puncher. "We're the best in the world".

The consensus was that Fury outboxed Wilder despite his 12th round knockdown
The consensus was that Fury outboxed Wilder despite his 12th round knockdown

"With the two knockdowns I definitely won". I went to Germany to fight Klitschko and I went to America to fight Deontay Wilder. "Why not? Let's give the fans what they want to see".

It was not just the boxing world that was enthralled by what happened at the Staples Center, though.

Wilder responded with increasingly desperate flurries of big punches, very few of which found their mark. Fury seemed in control when Wilder landed his trademark, a howitzer of a right that landed on the side of Fury's head.

Fury went right back to work in the next two rounds, and a decision appeared to be in reach.

To that end, Fury came out the next round much like he did in the seventh, landing several unanswered left hand, right hand combinations to regain the momentum he lost the previous round.

The fight attracted the celebrity attention expected in Hollywood from actors and athletes alike.

The 10-8 round proved crucial in the final reckoning, though.
