The United State's Postal Service is suspending regular mail deliveries that day to honor President George H.W. Bush.

Trump, whose ascendancy to the head of the Republican Party saw him exchange vitriolic attacks with the establishment Bushes, has taken pains to demonstrate unity since the death of former president George H.W. Bush, aged 94, on Friday.

"I'm just here to pay my respects", said Jane Hernandez, a retired physician. The service will take place tomorrow at The National Cathedral in Washington.

Both the House and Senate shut down most business on Monday, with lawmakers quickly passing resolutions to allow Mr. Bush to lie in state in the Rotunda, and to use the catafalque, or funeral bier, that was first constructed to hold President Abraham Lincoln's casket in 1865.

Randy Bates, a 48-year-old Idaho resident, chose to pay his respects because he was in town for work. Bush was a pilot in the Navy who served in World War II.

Another person told the Post that Bush "wouldn't want anyone there to feel uncomfortable, including the incumbent president'".

"I think we need to be a little bit thoughtful and careful about how we interpret what President Trump is doing here", Engel said.

The stock market will also be closed on Wednesday.

Former President George W. Bush will be among those eulogizing his late father on Wednesday, CNN reported Monday, adding that several other former presidents are expected to show up at the funeral. "President Bush answered the call to serve whenever our nation needed him - and we needed him often and in so many important capacities". Many banks and other businesses also will shut down, and government buildings are flying flags at half-staff until December 30.
