Mexico says migrants who tried to rush United States border will be deported

Border clash leaves caravan migrants dejected worried

Thousands of additional migrants are also expected to arrive in Tijuana. "Those persons were stopped and turned back to Mexico".

Hundreds of migrants approaching the California border from Mexico were enveloped with tear gas Sunday after several tried to make it past fencing and wire separating the two countries. They appeared to easily pass through without using violence, and some of the migrants called on each other to remain peaceful.

"Families are frightened and soldiers are shooting tear gas at toddlers".

Numerous migrants are seeking to apply for asylum in the USA, but as James Fredrick reported for NPR, fewer than 100 asylum petitions per day are being processed at the San Ysidro entry point.

On Monday morning President Trump tweeted that numerous migrants are "stone cold criminals", and threatened to close the border permanently.

One migrant from Honduras said, "They started throwing tear gas at us".

According to the ministry, no casualties have been registered among migrants following their attempt to illegally enter the United States, and the situation at the border is under control. We will close the Border permanently if need be.

Stephanie Leutert, director of the Mexico Security Initiative at the University of Texas at Austin, described the Remain in Mexico plan as a strategy to take away the ability of migrants to live and work in the US while cases are processed.

At that point, before the group had reached the border, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers who had gathered on the other side of the fence launched canisters of what a Reuters reporter said felt and smelled like pepper spray.

But Mexico's incoming government, which assumes power December 1, denied that it is willing to let USA asylum-seekers stay there pending the outcome of their cases in US immigration courts, which could take years.

Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum on Friday declared a humanitarian crisis in his border city of 1.6 million, which he says is struggling to accommodate the crush of migrants.

"We can't have all these people here", Mujica said.

"There is no agreement of any sort between the incoming Mexican government and the US government", Sanchez said. "Congress, fund the WALL!" the USA president tweeted on Monday.

Meanwhile, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of SC, took to Twitter to accuse critics of having to "really hate President Donald Trump to not understand the problems created by the caravans".

The Trump administration has demanded that Mexico agree to host migrants who apply for asylum in the United States at the southern border as they wait for their hearing before an immigration judge in the United States. During his presidential campaign, he promised he'd have Mexico pay for the wall.

Mexico is on track to send a total of around 100,000 Central Americans back home by the end of this year.
