Threat of rain prompts schedule changes for Christmas parades

President Donald Trump led a countdown for the lighting of the National Christmas Tree on Wednesday, and first lady Melania Trump hit the switch to illuminate the decked-out spruce in President's Park, just south of the White House.

Mrs. Trump is featured in a new video unveiling the White House Christmas decorations, an annual tradition dating back decades.

"It's the 21st century and everybody has different tastes, I think they look fantastic".

Vice said that "Melania Trump's Christmas from Hell" pays "tribute to our country's unique heritage of anguish and pain".

This year's display also features 72 handmade ornaments representing six regions across America in the East Room, 40 topiary trees in the East Colonnade that some have said resemble Gilead from The Handmaid's Tale, as well as 29 trees adorned with more than 14,000 red ornaments in the Grand Foyer.

She added: "I will always tell him that drugs - they could be very risky and they could mess up your mind and body, and to love yourself more than you love drugs". I think they look fantastic. "In real life, they look even more attractive and you are all very welcome to visit the White House, the People's House", she said.

She also invited the crowd to come and view the trees for themselves.

Another subject was social media etiquette, a cornerstone of her "Be Best" campaign (along with opioid use and well-being), with Melania remarking that it's important to be "respectful and kind".

Melania Trump was wearing her coat instead of draping it over her shoulders - one of her signature fashion moves - in the 35 degree weather.

Her words were greeted with laughter, cheers and applause from the audience.
