Storm Callum to hit Pembrokeshire

BREAKING Storm Callum officially named as Weather Warnings upgraded to Orange for many areas

Met Eireann issued the Status Orange warning for Galway on Wednesday evening ahead of Storm Callum which will hit Ireland on Thursday night.

Some tiles could blow off roofs.

"For Tayside and Fife on Friday there are no warnings in force but the rain is going to continue across the area right into Saturday".

The Met Office said there will be strong winds and rainfall up to 10cm, leading to possible flooding and hard driving conditions.

Widespread travel disruption and flooding is predicted across the country as conditions deteriorate from Thursday into Friday morning, with a series of Met Office weather warnings already in force.

"Areas of high ground exposed to the south and south west will be most affected, with the potential for 50-80mm in 12 hours, and a chance of over 120mm in a few spots".

There is also a warning for rain in place for Cumbria from 12am to 23.59pm on Saturday (October 13).

"Despite clearance efforts by the Council, the high winds will increase the amount of falling leaves and block drains very quickly, exacerbating flooding" he warned.

"Natural Resources Wales has issued flood alerts for the Pembrokeshire coast due to a low pressure system bringing tidal surges, strong winds and large waves on top of high astronomical tide period" he continued.

"Storm Callum is the 3rd named storm of the 2018/19 season".

Cllr John Campbell says areas of South Donegal which have been prone to flooding in the past owing to high tides could still be vulnerable.

"And for Wales and south-Wales in particular even more rainfall".

The National Emergency Coordination Group is also set to convene this afternoon as fears grow over impact of Storm Callum.

The county council is urging motorists to avoid all coastal roads, and to only make essential journeys.

Ireland will bear the brunt of the storm, but gusts of 80mph are expected in parts of Scotland, with up to 10cm of rain falling.
