The report came shortly after US President Donald Trump said Riyadh would suffer "severe consequences" if it turned out that it was behind the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi. Turkish officials say they have audio and video recordings that show a Saudi security team killed him.

Saudi Arabia has denied the claims.

"I don't think any of our government officials should be going and pretending it's business as usual until we know what's happened here", said Rubio, R-Fla.

President Donald Trump, who has pegged his Middle East strategy around Saudi Arabia - and specifically Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman - has said the incident is being investigated, but ruled out halting his country's multi-billion dollar arms deals with Riyadh.

"The countries that can increase are very small in number", Helima Croft, the head of commodities research at RBC, told Business Insider, adding that there were questions about how long Russian Federation could keep raising output. James Lankford, R-Okla., who was at the White House for the arrival of American pastor Andrew Brunson, who was released from Turkey after almost two years of confinement.

Analysts warn that the controversy surrounding Khashoggi's fate could trigger a financial crisis, imperiling Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman's ambitious economic reform drive.

Citing two unidentified sources, CNN reported on Monday that Saudi Arabia is preparing a report that would acknowledge Khashoggi was killed as the result of an interrogation that went wrong.

As every passing day unfolds the mystery behind the veteran journalist's disappearance, the Saudi kingdom is being increasingly isolated by world powers.

His tweet comes as Saudi Arabia has agreed to allow Turkish investigators to search the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on Monday, 13 days after Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist, vanished upon entering the mission, three Turkish officials said.

Before Monday Trump had focused less on possible explanations for Khashoggi's likely demise than on possible punishment if the Saudis were found culpable.

The development comes after a Saudi delegation of a dozen officials arrived in Turkey while Saudi King Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the weekend discussed the case in their first telephone talks on the controversy. Certain areas of the consulate were to remain off-limits, although officials would be able to inspect surveillance cameras, Turkish media reported.

Turkish police investigators entered the Istanbul consulate late on Monday.

Aldakhil warned that his country would even consider giving a military base to Russian Federation in Tabuk, northwest of Saudi Arabia, a strategic area near Syria, Israel, Lebanon and Iraq. In statements after the call, both praised the creation of a joint Saudi-Turkish probe.

This message had been conveyed "directly to the Saudi authorities", said the statement, signed by Britain's foreign minister Jeremy Hunt, his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian and Germany's Heiko Maas.

"Erdogan's ideal scenario is not drawn-out conflict with the Saudis, it's to help the Saudis dig out of this with a graceful exit", he said. And during a recent diplomatic spat with Canada, it continued to supply a refinery in the North American country even though Riyadh severed most other economic links. In America, Trump wants to tame prices before key midterm elections in November.
