Pochettino says Man City are favourites for clash

Pep Guardiola has revealed he rushed to Manchester Arena after hearing his wife and daughters were caught up in last year's terror attack

"Because we play one of the best teams in Europe and the world". It's the worst. But it's the best start ever for the club in the Premier League.

In a lavish football universe where six-figure weekly wages have become the norm, Spurs are paying their star players wages that could be usurped by clubs like West Ham, Crystal Palace and Fulham and eventually, that prudence will catch up with them.

Taking over relegation-threatened Espanyol on the other side of town in January 2009, Pochettino's first game in charge was a daunting Copa del Rey quarter-final against Guardiola's Barca.

"They show me how wrong I was", Guardiola told a news conference.

Spurs are the home side but will likely spend a lot of time without the ball - when they do have a chance to pin City back, it is imperative they don't allow quick counter-attacks to split them open. Disappointed because we are still waiting for the new stadium when the expectation was to be there from the beginning. "I'm pretty sure that Tottenham have a good green keeper", Guardiola said.

The Spurs boss says that his team will go into the clash at Wembley as underdogs, but says his team are still capable of winning.

"People said in that period, "City are going to win the Premier League" and in that game I realised, when I saw how physical they are, how good they are, how (they play) high press, how many good things they do - this is a team".

"I think the Premier League doesn't like it too much but it is what it is". "It's odd because my feeling is the worst feeling I've had in the five years that I've been here". I'm feeling confident and I'm looking forward.

Fifth-placed Tottenham could go above City with a fifth successive league victory and the possible return of Alli would be a boost against Pep Guardiola's in-form side.

The 46-year-old Argentine believes Spurs are "not showing that level to be a real contender" even though they would leapfrog the defending champions if they beat them at Wembley.

"I don't know what's happened in the past but it's true that the strong teams are making a lot of points, they are not dropping points easily". And of course always when we arrive at like a final game, we always fail.

Tottenham are approaching the busy autumn and winter period with a smaller squad compared to the other big teams in the Premier League, but Pochettino feels he has the players to cope with the mounting fixture list.

"It was not the plan to be at Wembley, different things can happen like the National Football League games and you cannot change the date and we need to accept that as reality and not complain". Spurs can leapfrog both Man City and Arsenal into third place with a win against the reigning champions.
