Netflix's Luke Cage Series Cancelled For Lamest Reason

Reason For

It's been said that the writers' room turned in to Marvel and Netflix "detailed drafts" for five episodes of a potential new season during the week of Monday, October 15.

Season 2 of Netflix's Luke Cage premiered on Friday and much like the first season, the show is backed by an excellent soundtrack which just so happens to include brand new music from the legendary Rakim. Perhaps, Marvel and Netflix are looking to make a Heroes for Hire series which follows the adventures of both Luke Cage and Daniel Rand (aka Iron Fist), along with beloved characters Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. Along with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Punisher, Cage helped protect the streets of NY at a much smaller level than the Avengers. Those creatives had apparently been crafting stories, reviewing notes and feedback from Marvel Television and Netflix brass, and polishing up scripts for roughly six months prior to the series' cancellation.

"I am forever grateful to Marvel and Netflix for letting me portray such a prolific character, and I thank you fantastic fans", he wrote alongside a photo of him with his newborn.

"Unfortunately, Marvel's Luke Cage will not return for a third season", Marvel and Netflix told Deadline in a joint statement. Now, a new report suggests a decline in social media buzz may reflect the reasoning behind Netflix's decision. Luke Cage loyals have taken to social media in droves to express their disappointment, outrage, and heartache over the series' cancellation.

Axing Luke Cage, however, was a total surprise. It would have been a Sweet Christmas if things had worked out differently for the superhero series. Thus far we know The Defenders, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage have gotten the axe. "Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners". A petition to get the show back on the air has surfaced, while fans on Twitter have been voicing their displeasure with the cancellation.
