Megyn Kelly and NBC News Commence Exit Negotiations

Megyn Kelly discussing exit with NBC News following controversial blackface comments

According to a "Today" show report on Friday, NBC executives and Kelly's representatives were in negotiations about her departure and her remaining three-year $69 million contract.

"Megyn Kelly Today is not returning", NBC News has now announced. And among various costumes that were deemed offensive, Megyn Kelly asked the panel "what is racist?"

A year and a half after Megyn Kelly's arrival prompted Tamron Hall to ditch her anchor spot on "Today", Hall publicly reunited with her former co-host, Al Roker - who earlier this week made headlines for criticizing his current co-star Kelly. Kelly's nighttime news magazine Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly was a misfire as well, with NBC quietly pulling it off the schedule after just eight airings. Farrow told reporters had no knowledge of the Kelly meeting a NBC or the request.

According to reports from Variety and CNN earlier this week, talks about canceling Kelly's show have been in the works for some time.

Multiple factors explain Kelly's impending exit from NBC.

"'Megyn Kelly Today' is not returning", a spokesperson for the network said.

What is more, it's unclear that Kelly is even going to suffer much of a outcome for her actions. Her live show was replaced Thursday and Friday with a pre-taped episode.

That did not play out well however, with one network source stating: 'We wouldn't hire her in a million years.

After widespread anger over her comments and reports that the House of Cards cast refused to be interviewed by her, she circulated an internal email to her NBC colleagues.

But let's be clear: NBC wanted to rid themselves of Kelly for the longest time and they seized on this gaffe as an opportune moment to do so.

The high-paid host's rocky tenure at NBC is coming to an end after she made remarks about blackface on Tuesday during a segment about controversial Halloween costumes. "Back when I was a kid, that was okay as long as you were dressing up as a character".

"Truly, you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween or a black person who put on whiteface for Halloween", she continued. And whatever her next destination is, let's hope she'll go back to her roots and do what she does best; sharp, sometimes biting, political analysis.

"Megyn Kelly is done", one source, named as an NBC executive, said.
