Maltese champions Valletta offer contract to Jamaican sprinter — Usain Bold

Could we soon see Usain Bolt lighting up the Champions League

The football - and sporting - sphere was sent into a frenzy last week after Usain Bolt scored not one but two goals on his professional football debut for A-League outfit Central Coast Mariners.

Bolt said: "So guys I've retired from track and field looking to become a footballer but look at this", attaching a picture of the notice. Bolt chuckled at the fact that he had to give a drug test even though he was not a professional footballer.

The 100m world record-holder quit athletics past year and is yet to be offered a deal by Australia's Central Coast Mariners, where he is now on trial. The retired sprint king has been concertedly trying to make it as a professional footballer ever since he hung up his spikes in 2017 and would be a huge talking point and commercial draw for any club that offers him a proper contract.

Australia's national anti-doping scheme applies to any athlete who is competing in a sport which has an anti-doping policy, as Football Federation Australia (FFA) does.

Maltese champions, Valletta, said they hoped to sign the eight-time Olympic gold medallist in time for him to participate in their Super Cup match on December 13 against Balzan.

Bolt, who turned down offers from European clubs prior to initially picking the Mariners, is now mulling whether he'll continue chasing an A-League gig.

Port Adelaide chairman David Koch has received heavy criticism after insensitively referring to slavery during a discussion on his morning show, Sunrise, about sports superstar Usain Bolt.

After a few months of training at Borussia Dortmund, Bolt shifted to Mariners in Australia to live his footballing career.

Amidst such developments, Bolt's two-goal heroics on Friday in a pre-season friendly set social media ablaze and has drawn attention from a European club.

Bolt, 32, has been offered his first professional football contract to play for Maltese club Valletta FC who have outlined an ambitious plot to get into Europe's elite club competition.
