Democrats Protest As Republicans Likely Lock Up Kavanaugh Committee Approval

Kavanaugh Accuser Speaks Out ‘I Don’t Think He Belongs on the Supreme Court’More

After yesterday's testimony from both United States supreme court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and university professor Dr Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused him of sexual assault, today we are expecting senators to hold a vote.

Christine Blasey Ford and Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee over Ford's allegation of sexual assault.

The video of Swetnick was revealed on Thursday just hours before another Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford is set to testify before the Senate Judiciary committee.

Moments after the hearing finished, Trump tweeted that Kavanaugh "showed America exactly why I nominated him". Acknowledging that their support for Kavanaugh was based in part on his standing as a "committed textualist" who might help rewrite the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision, the editors said his nomination is now woven into the discussion of how to treat women who report harassment and abuse. One day earlier, he had blistered the Senate process as "a total sham", accused Democrats of a conspiracy of obstruction and declared on Twitter, "The Senate must vote!"

The American Bar Association urged the Senate Judiciary Committee and the full Senate to delay the vote until the Federal Bureau of Investigation could do a full background check on the assault claims - something President Donald Trump has refused to order.

Through a campaign spokesman, Sununu said the Senate "should think carefully about the next steps in this process".

"This confirmation process has become a national disgrace", he said.

A furious Kavanaugh, 53, denied the allegations in a passionate defence.

She says while they were both in high school in 1982, Kavanaugh groped her and tried to rip off her clothes as he pinned her down on a bed.

Kavanaugh accurately summarized those statements when he told senators: "All of the people identified by Dr. Ford as being present at the party have said they do not remember any such party ever happening".

"Brett and Mark came into the bedroom and locked the door behind them", she said.

Like many Americans, employees at the White House were riveted on the testimony of Kavanaugh and Ford throughout the day.

Fellow Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, of SC, said Democrats' treatment of Mr Kavanaugh was the "most despicable thing" he had seen in politics. Kavanaugh said he "never assaulted anyone".

Mr Hatch said the hearing was "worse" than the 1991 hearing for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas - which Mr Hatch also participated in and which led to a surge in the number of women elected to Congress the next year.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation on Friday, which would potentially advance him to a wider Senate vote, and eventual confirmation as a Supreme Court Justice. Ford delivered her testimony with steady, deliberate certitude.

Mitchell was given just five minutes at a time to ask questions before she had to yield to a Democratic senator.

"Don't look away from me", she said. Though Ford is the only accuser testifying, three women have made allegations against Kavanaugh.

Judge also said in the letter that he and Kavanaugh were friends in high school but have not spoken directly in several years.

Soon he was working on a new deal with his Republican colleagues and Democrats in a Judiciary Committee anteroom. Ford's attorneys told the panel that they paid for the polygraph, and that they were representing her pro bono. But he reiterated he still believes Kavanaugh's nomination will ultimately be successful and said that he had not even thought about a new nominee if the vote on Kavanaugh fails. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who read from the ABA's endorsement of Kavanaugh, and who described the American Bar Association as "the gold standard".

"This whole two-week effort have been a calculated and orchestrated political hit fuelled with apparent pent-up anger about president Trump and the 2016 election", he said, adding that they were seeking "revenge on behalf of the Clintons and millions of dollars in money from outside left-wing opposition groups".
