After days of restraint, Trump mocks Kavanaugh accuser

Lawyer: FBI has completed Mark Judge interview

Trump ordered the FBI to reopen the investigation into Kavanaugh last week after a dramatic last-minute demand by Senator Flake during the Senate Judiciary Committee's vote on the nominee.

The report will review allegations from California professor Christine Blasey Ford, who says Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when both were teenagers, and from Kavanaugh's Yale classmate Deborah Ramirez, who says he exposed himself to her at a party when both were freshmen.

The White House - through press secretary Sarah Sanders and others - has dismissed all the allegations against him as old news that had been litigated during the campaign. She did not answer a question about whether the comments could affect how she votes on Kavanaugh. Flake has not said how he will vote if the nomination comes up this week.

Chuck Schumer, the senate Democrats' leader, accused Mr Kavanaugh of delivering a "partisan screed" during a judiciary committee hearing last week.

"A vote against Kavanaugh is a "yes" vote for more of these despicable tactics being used time and time again in the future", said Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, on the Senate floor Tuesday.

The FBI's supplemental investigation began last Friday night, U.S. time, after an official request from the Senate judiciary committee and an order from the White House.

"There's clearly a reason for that and I assume the administration doesn't want members of Congress and the public to see it", Durbin said.

"And a man's life is in tatters", Trump added.

Republicans noted that a bipartisan memorandum of understanding in 2009 dictates the handling of such reports.

It's Wednesday's OnPolitics Today.

Democrats questioned the secrecy - and the decision to rely on the standard procedure - given the significance.

Besides Flake, Collins and Murkowski, Democratic Senators Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Manchin of West Virginia also have yet to announce how they will vote. He cited the example of how the FBI's findings were handled when it investigated accusations of sexual harassment by Anita Hill against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.

"This is another part of their moving the goal posts, which is happening at the speed of light at this point", said Carrie Severino, chief counsel for the Judicial Crisis Network, a conservative advocacy group. But I can say that he lied under oath.

When HuffPost asked if he'd consider withholding his support for Kavanaugh until a version of the report was made public, Kennedy responded, "No, that's silly".

"All of us need to keep in mind there's a few people that are on the fence right now".

Two senior Senate sources told Fox News earlier that the report isn't expected to be released publicly.

Neither has said how she will vote.

The White House pushed back Monday by issuing statements from two other college friends of Kavanaugh, who contradicted Ludington.

"I take a very different view than some people have taken of Dr. Ford".

Senate GOP leadership doesn't intend to make the Federal Bureau of Investigation report on Kavanaugh public, and Republicans who want to release it don't seem willing to force McConnell's hand. Sen.

Earlier Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell denied a request made by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to approve a briefing by FBI agents on the bureau's background investigation (BI).

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, blamed the FBI's narrow list of interviewees on the White House.

It is not clear whether the document will draw conclusions about the allegations.

Christine Blasey Ford's lawyers say they'll turn over notes from her therapy sessions and any recordings of her taking a lie detector test to the FBI, if the bureau agrees to interview her. The FBI probably won't try to resolve disputes between conflicting witnesses, and witnesses wouldn't be tested by polygraph, he said. Kavanaugh's confirmation could come down to Sens.

"The FBI doesn't make credibility determinations about ultimate facts", Mukasey said.
