Turlock Reacts To New Nike Ad Featuring Colin Kaepernick

Serena Williams has been a supporter of Colin Kaepernick's protest

Several players followed suit, and the 2017 season was marked by numerous protests during the pre-game anthems - much to the disgust of U.S. president Donald Trump. Some took to Twitter with videos of Nike gear burning, while others went out to buy more.

Kaepernick is now a free agent, and has not been signed by any National Football League team. "You think of all these guys who voted for Trump", Kimmel said.

A Nike advertisement featuring Kaepernick hit social media on Monday and instantly began trending nationwide for its controversial messaging.

Surprisingly, Trump did not immediately join in on the attacks, but told the Daily Caller today, "I think it's a awful message".

US President Donald Trump said Nike’s campaign sends “a terrible message” by using Colin Kaepernick

Now that the 30-year-old free agent has signed on to lend his name and image to Nike, the same conservatives who vehemently slammed Kaepernick's politically charged form of public protest are now directing their ire toward the shoe company. The destruction inspired mockery on the left, with at least one observer noting that homeless veterans' groups could use donations of unwanted Nike products. This is offensive to them and to me.

After Nike unveiled the campaign, Williams tweeted that she was "especially proud to be a part of the Nike family". "[Nike is] picking a side, and I don't think that's going to negatively affect them in the long run", Morris said.

"I think every athlete, every human, and definitely every African-American should be completely grateful and honored how Colin and Eric [Reid] are doing so much more for the greater good", Williams told the Associated Press last week. Other players followed suit and Trump latched on to Kaepernick, at a rally, telling his receptive base that team owners should fire those "sons of bitches".

By James saying, "I stand with Nike", rather than naming Kaepernick and making clear the former NFL QB's beliefs, it's easier to lose sight of what he has been protesting all along - racial inequality in America, not the country's virtues.
