Trump on Kim Jong Un: ‘We fell in love’

DPRK Says Will Not Denuclearize Before More Trust in US

On Saturday, North Korea's top diplomat Ri Yong Ho told the United Nations that Pyongyang doesn't see a "corresponding response" from the U.S. to its proposals to disarm.

The foreign minister's address comes as Washington and Pyongyang are re-engaging in talks to implement a denuclearization agreement reached between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at their historic Singapore summit in June.

But his comments seemed infused with impatience at the slow pace of progress in a process the world hopes will cause Pyongyang to abandon an arsenal of nuclear-tipped missiles.

Praising the progress he said they've made toward halting the rogue regime's nuclear program, Mr. Trump said he has averted what would have been a certain war with North Korea.

Kim has also promised to accept global inspectors to monitor the closing of a key missile test site and launch pad.

So far, all three, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the North has not even agreed to define basic terms such as "denuclearisation", "verifiable", and "irreversible".

"But the problem is that the continued sanctions are deepening our mistrust".

The refusal to ease sanctions is deepening its mistrust of the U.S., Ri said, according to Reuters.

"Those in the political opposition in the USA make it their daily business to slander the DPRK claiming that we can not be trusted, with the sole goal of attacking their political opponent and they are forcing the administration to make unreasonable unilateral demands to our side, thereby impeding the smooth progress of the dialogue and negotiations".

There was no immediate response from Washington.

Trump met Kim in Singapore in June for the first-ever summit between the two countries that have never signed a peace treaty.

"Why has President Trump given up so much?" "Am I allowed to say that?" "And we were going back and forth, and then we fell in love. OK?"

He said he and Mr. Kim have figured out they like each other, and they are planning a second summit, at Mr. Kim's request. "I don't want to prejudge precisely where we'll end up", Pompeo said this week when pressed on the possibility as a next step.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Ri in NY and is planning to go to Pyongyang next month to continue discussions.

Mr Moon said that he had been "able to confirm Chairman Kim's firm commitment to complete denuclearisation" and that he had also expressed his wish to meet Mr Trump again soon.

Earlier Saturday, North Korea's foreign minister said that there was "no way we will denuclearize" without concessions being made by the US.
