Rap mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight pleads to manslaughter days before murder trial

Tupac Shakur Suge Knight manslaughter death jail sentence hip hop rap Compton | Daily Star

Knight has reportedly been experiencing health issues in recent years and told the judge he expects to die in prison.

Knight, centre, turned himself in at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department in 2015 in connection with the hit-and-run incident that left one man dead and another injured. His legal team later claimed that a hit man hired by Dr. Dre to kill Knight was at Tam's the day of the incident. Knight fled the scene.

TMZ broke the news just days before his trial was scheduled to begin.

Last year, Knight was indicted on charges of "threatening death or bodily injury" against Staight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray.

Suge will also be on parole for three years following his prison sentence.

Knight's attorneys had argued he was fleeing armed attackers. Two separate criminal cases in which he was charged with robbery and making criminal threats will also be dismissed when he is formally sentenced on October 4, prosecutors said.

Suge has maintained that he wasn't trying to hurt Sloan or Carter and says he was trying to escape after believing that they were both about to shoot him. The court now sees him as a repeat offender.

Knight, who was incarcerated at the time, was named by police a few years later as a suspect in the Wallace slaying but was never charged.

The agreement means prosecutors will recommend he serve 28 years behind bars. In February of 1997, Knight was sentenced to five years in prison for violating his probation by partaking in a fight outside of a Las Vegas hotel earlier in the night before Shakur's death, which remains unsolved.
