Free mobile roaming could end in European Union if no deal Brexit

The government said Britain would "continue to allow the free flow of personal data from the U.K.to the European Union", but there is no guarantee the European Union would allow data to be transferred in the other direction.

Traders say many investors are reluctant to take out big directional bets on sterling because of the uncertainty about where the Brexit negotiations are headed.

Prime Minister Theresa May held a special Cabinet meeting Thursday focused on "no deal" preparations, and the government was publishing a sheaf of documents looking at the potential impact on various sectors of the economy.

"So even as part of a no-deal arrangement the European Union could indicate that it is prepared to recognise United Kingdom driving licences and the United Kingdom could say it is prepared to recognise European Union driving licences".

Britain would fall into recession, the pound would collapse and shop prices would rocket in the event of a no-deal Brexit, credit ratings agency Moody's has warned.

The Brexit department said issues covered will include upholding environmental standards, plans for vehicle standards and mobile-phone roaming charges.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Mr Raab stated that if there is no deal: "The government would not pay the terms of the financial settlement".

Emerging from talks between the United Kingdom and devolved administrations on Brexit that also focused on no-deal preparations, the Scottish Government's constitutional relations secretary warned of "a danger that becomes self-fulfilling".

"It's not a threat and it's not an ultimatum, it's a statement of fact", he said.

Speaking ahead of the publications Raab said: "With six months to go until the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, we are stepping up our 'no deal" preparations so that Britain can continue to flourish, regardless of the outcome of negotiations.

Mr Raab told BBC Radio 4's Today programme two mobile operators, Vodafone and Three, had publicly agreed not to bring back roaming charges for British citizens.

The Confederation of British Industry said the notices showed the extent of disruption consumers can expect if "ideology wins over evidence". "If that doesn't happen, the United Kingdom will manage the challenges of no deal, so we make a success of Brexit". The EU directive brought in in June 2017 which capped the prices mobile phone operators could charge each other will no longer apply to the United Kingdom after Brexit.
