Daniel Sturridge Scores Splendid Overhead-Kick Goal In Liverpool Vs. Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri

Liverpool tasted defeat for the first time this season as Chelsea came from behind to beat the Reds 2-1 in the third round of the EFL Cup.

In a formidable display of skill and speed, Eden Hazard slalomed past Liverpool players before scoring the goal that sealed Chelsea's progress in the League Cup. We had enough chances to win the game and go forward, but unfortunately, we lost it in the end and we go out of a competition we wanted to win.

Saturday's Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge may be the priority this week and he might be right to think like that, but he has a squad with enough depth to ensure he can be ambitious in his team selection in this first game against the Blues.

Emerson Palmieri levelled after Daniel Sturridge gave Liverpool the lead in the 58th minute before Hazard's mesmerising victor in the 85th minute.

Liverpool, though, will quickly have a chance for revenge as they head to Chelsea protecting a flawless Premier League record for a blockbuster Stamford Bridge clash on Saturday.

Fabinho started alongside Naby Keita and James Milner in Liverpool's midfield, facing off against Chelsea's Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic and Cesc Fabragas.

I don't know if it's in my top five goals but it's up there because it's against Liverpool'.

"I am happy. Not just me, the team did well", Hazard said. "We won so in the league we will change some players, they will change some players but we want to win again".

"He's going fast in maturity, in choices on the pitch, and in my opinion we haven't seen the best yet". Neither Liverpool nor Chelsea have players who can fill the void for Salah or Hazard respectively, but some players are irreplaceable and you simply have to everything you can to ensure that they are fit and ready for the games that truly matter. The first half was good and the second half started well.

"I was pleased to be on the pitch", he said.
