Jerry Brown stands next to the podium before signing a budget bill in June in Los Angeles.

"You can expect that - unfortunately - to continue intensifying in California and throughout the Southwest. We're part of that process of the Mediterranean climate that is being impacted by the changing weather".

A helicopter carries water while battling the River Fire burning in Lakeport in California. "It's going to get expensive, it's going to get risky, and we have to apply all our creativity to make the best of what is going to be an increasingly bad situation".

"We are making good progress on the fire", CalFire Deputy Chief Bret Gouvea told reporters at a mostly upbeat news briefing in Redding. The deaths of two bulldozer operators battling California wildfires in July highlighted the dangers confronting these less visible firefighters.

Our crews spent the next 24 hours providing structure defense as the fire devastated the Redding area.

The Mendocino Complex Fire is a combined 80,408 acres as of Tuesday night, and is made up of the Ranch and River fires.

The Carr Fire, which has burned 121,000 acres and left six people dead, is now considered the sixth most destructive fire in California history, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, also known as Cal Fire. It is 35 percent contained.

"A huge forest fire in Northern California has destroyed more than 1,000 homes in and around the town of Redding", - stated in the material.

A new fire, being called the Eel Fire, is causing need for mandatory evacuations in Mendocino County as of Tuesday.

Unlike the Carr Fire, authorities don't know what started the Ferguson Fire, which has now engulfed almost 63,000 acres.

The flames were sparked July 23 by the mechanical failure of a vehicle, Cal Fire said. The Associated Press says at least three new ones erupted Wednesday in the Sierra Nevada region.
