Doom Eternal Unleashes Hell at QuakeCon, First Footage and New Details Revealed

DOOM Eternal gameplay reveal: Here's how to watch

Once again, DOOM Eternal puts players in control of the DOOM Slayer, a gun-toting, demon-murdering antihero hellbent on revenge (no pun intended).

The lengthy gameplay demo was part of a keynote delivered at Quakecon, the annual showcase for all things id (and Bethesda). Developed by id Software, DOOM Eternal brings the ultimate combination of speed and power with the next leap in push-forward, first-person combat.

One of the biggest takeaways from today's event is that DOOM Eternal will not be confined to a single location. "Everything you saw, that's pushing the envelope", Stratton explained.

Bethesda said today that there are twice as many demons as there were the last time, and a number of the enemies from DOOM 2 are being updated for this game. It seems like Vulcan API is really letting the devs run wild with the graphical prowess as well as allowing scaling down for less powerful machines. There are a ton of weapons shown off during the gameplay, like the blade attached to your arm, or a shoulder-mounted flamethrower. We were first introduced to the game back at E3 2018, but what was announced then amounted to nothing more than a teaser. At the moment, it is without a release date. The infamous double-barreled death machine now comes equipped with a tool the team are calling the "meat hook" which, as you see in the gameplay reveal, doubles as a grappling hook, adding another dimension to Doom's already blistering traversal.

Take a look at some of the excellent games coming in 2019 and beyond. Todd Howard appeared on stage during the Xbox press conference and revealed Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer game that tasks players with rebuilding the Wasteland.

It all looked just as over-the-top and gory (without being too gross) as you'd expect and towards the end of the footage you can see Doomguy descend into a more organic-looking hellscape.
