Community Members Call For Brooklyn Nail Salon To Close Following Brawl

Salon women fighting

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams released a statement on Monday, saying, "This morning, a constituent sent me video of Friday's incident at Flatbush's New Red Apple Nails salon".

A viral video showing a group of nail salon employees beating a customer with a broom has resulted in backlash for the Brooklyn business.

Surveillance video released by the Chinese American Nail Association shows the verbal argument escalating into a physical fight. Police later arrived on the scene to arrest two of the salon's employees.

Mercy Maduka, who posted the video, wrote on Facebook that the fight began when the customer refused to pay for a botched eyebrow job.

"Share this cause the cops made a decision to arrest the black people but not the Chinese people who ganged up on them", Mercy Maduka stated on Facebook.

According to the nail association, an employee told them Thomas refused to pay for any of the other services she received, telling CBS New York that the altercation could have easily been avoided. "I said 'sit down, let me call the police".

"She said she didn't like it and doesn't want to pay for nothing", Lin told WNBC/Channel 4. Thomas refused medical treatment, according to police.

"We don't need to protest, we need to financially castrate this business".

The video was originally posted on Facebook by the witness.

The incident happened last week at New Red Apple Nails on Nostrand Avenue near Martense Street.

"This place will never get my money".

"There is no respect for people in this neighborhood", Gavin Gibbs, a 49-year-old East Flatbush resident, said to the New York Daily News. The worst nail salon ever!

Shamile Smiley McBroom added, "Video of a grandmother and patrons being hit with brooms does not deserve service. They are violent. I saw these workers beat up a woman, well more like jumped her". "He said 'I'll fix it, ' she said, 'you can't fix it'". Instead of making a compromise or including a 3rd party (police) to mediate they attacked them.

"That happens a lot, they're not supposed to fight like that, for both sides that is totally wrong", a representative from the association said.
