Alderweireld to tell Spur's: It's Man United or nothing

United had targeted Leicester's Maguire

Manchester United have finally made progress in their protracted pursuit of Toby Alderweireld, after arriving at a compromise with Tottenham over a £60 million fee, reports the Mirror.

"It's top secret", Mestre told ESPN FC when asked if United were one of the sides pursuing Mina.

Everton are reportedly nearing the signing of Barcelona's Yerry Mina.

A move to Everton had originally appeared to be in the cards, but Mina then emerged as a target for Manchester United as the Red Devils looked for an alternative to expensive targets Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a known admirer of Alderweireld's and the clubs CEO Ed Woodward has been trying to broker a deal for the defender since May.

United had agreed personal terms with the player initially - according to multiple reports - but the latest suggests that Mina's adviser Felipe Russo "moved the goalposts" on the deal and asked for more money.

Alderweirald had a curtailed season a year ago with the Spurs due to injury, but was very impressive in the World Cup which led to the rumours of his departure.

The paper claims that the Old Trafford outfit "are closing in on a £60m deal for Alderweireld" after the Londoners signalled they would be willing to lower their £75m asking price.

Victor Lindelof struggled to settle during his first season in England, while stand-out central defender Eric Bailly struggled with injury for large parts of the campaign.

Everton completed the signing of Digne, a 25-year-old French left-back who has previously played Lille, Paris Saint-Germain and Roma, for close to £18 million pound last week.
