Trump speaks on May, Calls Johnson 'a Friend'

Brexit news- Theresa May and David Davis

Visible face of hard sector of Brexit, with a long history of challenges to Prime Minister every time this moved away from hardest postulates in process of rupture with European Union, departure of Boris Johnson makes Prime Minister wobble, by disenfréntandoseing likelihood that May will end up in a motion of censure.

Developments have moved quite fast since my piece last Sunday in which I outlined the United Kingdom government's new agreed policy of pursuing an extremely soft, even "name only" Brexit with the European Union in final negotiations which must be concluded before the United Kingdom final withdrawal from the E.U. on 29 March 2019.

The long-awaited document proposes keeping Britain and the European Union in a free market for goods, with a more distant relationship for services.

Labour MP Gareth Thomas, a champion of the anti-Brexit campaign group Best for Britain, said: "The US Ambassador is giving Trump the chance to help Boris keep undermining Theresa May".

Boris Johnson has presented his resignation as British foreign minister on Monday, furr deepening open crisis in government of Theresa May following resignation on Sunday night of head of Brexit, David Davis.

Trump came down firmly on the side of the Brexiteers.

Australia will have as good a relationship with Jeremy Hunt - the UK's new foreign secretary - as it had with his predecessor Boris Johnson, federal minister Christopher Pyne predicts.

Again in the interview, Mr Trump said: 'I was very saddened to see he was leaving government and I hope he goes back in at some point.

Britain is now part of the EU's single market - which allows for the frictionless flow of goods and services among the 28 member states - and its tariff-free customs union for goods.

May's government is trying to satisfy Britons who voted for their country to leave the bloc, but to set an independent course without hobbling businesses, security agencies and other sectors that are closely entwined with the EU. In contrast to his predecessor, Hunt voted to remain in the bloc in the 2016 referendum.

He says "there is now a new secretary of state and we look forward to moving on".

Trump's undiplomatic attack on May, his host, will likely raise the temperature around an already controversial visit. She was expected to give a news conference alongside May.

May's proposals for a future European Union relationship after Britain departs from the bloc next March had taken two years of internal government wrangling to agree.

He raised concerns, however around the UK's position on access to parts of the single market which has been ruled as red line for EU's Brexit taskforce.

"There is a whole range of scenarios in which they get no Brexit, or an indefinitely delayed Brexit, or a change of government or a second referendum".

After the hours-long meeting at Chequers, May seemed to have persuaded the most vocal Brexit campaigners in the cabinet, including Davis, to back her plan to press for "a free trade area for goods" with the European Union and maintain close trade ties.

Opinions are divided in May's cabinet over the way Britain is handling its exit from the EU.

It would also be hard for Britain to offer concessions on services, which make up roughly 80% of its economy.

May s Conservative opponents could trigger a leadership contest if at least 48 MPs support it, but to actually formally force her from office, 159 MPs would have to vote against her - a figure hardliners may not be able to reach.

"First of all, protecting the Common Travel Area so people can continue to travel freely between Britain and Ireland". But some senior pro-Brexit ministers have backed May's plan.
