In the audio aired first on CNN's "Cuomo Prime Time", Trump and Cohen can be heard discussing how they would buy the rights to former Playboy model Karen McDougal's story about an alleged affair she had with Trump years earlier, which Trump denies.

ABC News has obtained the secret audio recording between Donald Trump and his attorney Michael Cohen.

American Media Inc., the parent company of the National Enquirer, purchased the rights to McDougal's story for $150,000 but never published the story.

Trump has denied the affair and his legal team says the transaction never occurred. Trump on Wednesday suggested the tape was cut just as he was "presumably saying positive things", although there was no evidence of that.

One of the recordings has already been released.

"I need to open up a company for the transfer of all that info regarding our friend David", Cohen says. Collins said she told them she was being banned because "you don't like the questions I asked", and they responded that her network wasn't banned, "but you are not invited to the Rose Garden today".

The debate over whether Trump was advocating for payments via cash or cheque is "irrelevant" in determining whether he violated campaign finance laws, said Joshua Douglas, a professor of election law at the University of Kentucky.

CNN hired an audio forensics expert on Wednesday to review the tape and determine what is heard, what isn't heard and figure out what clues can be gleaned from the almost three-minute clip. Lawyers for the two men are disputing what was said.

In April, Donald Trump tweeted that Michael Cohen is a "fine person" who he has "always liked and respected", adding that he didn't see him ever turning on his former boss. Davis does acknowledge that Trump used the word "check" toward the end of the tape.

The leaking of the tape and reports that there are further recordings has fanned speculation about how much damage Cohen can inflict on the president and whether he is now mulling a cooperation deal with federal prosecutors.

Avenatti demanded that Cohen should put in writing right now that he will not accept a pardon from President Donald Trump as proof of sincerity.

The Enquirer's chairman, David J. Pecker, is a personal friend of Trump's, and McDougal has accused Cohen of taking part in the deal.

"The idea that the president was involved with other women is bait into his candidate model and no news to anyone..."

It involves Ms Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who says she had a months-long fling with Mr Trump after they met in 2006, shortly after Mr Trump's wife Melania gave birth to their son, Barron.
