Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Malcom from Bordeaux for an initial €41 million (£36.5m) just a day after Roma announced they had a deal of their own.

Malcom agreed a five-year deal to move to the Camp Nou, with a release clause expected to be fixed at €400m.

"A statement on the club's website read", FC Barcelona and Girondins de Bordeaux have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira.

However, the Catalan giants have now swooped in and signed the Brazilian starlet for a fee in the region on £40m.

Should the deal proceed it could have serious consequences for Chelsea midfielder Willian as he waits for Barcelona to match the Stamford Bridge club's £70m valuation. The 21-year-old will sign with Barca for the next five seasons until the end of the 2022/23 season.

Barcelona praised him as a "daring, pacey forward with an ability to shoot from distance" who has "a great future ahead of him".

"Aside from his speed, he also has great technical ability and links up well with his team-mates, one of the main aspects of Barca's football".

Malcom joined Bordeaux from Brazilian side Corinthians in January 2016, and scored 23 goals in 96 appearances for the Ligue 1 club.

The La Liga champions have already secured two major signings in Arthur from Gremio and Sevilla's Clement Lenglet, and Malcom becomes the third.
