We’re Getting the Jared Leto Joker Movie Nobody Asked For

Jared Leto’s Joker Is Getting His Own Movie (EXCLUSIVE)

Aside from this Joker movie, it was previously announced that Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn was getting her own spin-off, which now appears to have been amalgamated with the Birds of Prey movie, set to be directed by Cathy Yan.

Variety reports that the studio is developing a standalone film for Jared Leto's Joker, who debuted as a supporting character in David Ayer's 2016 super villain team-up pic, Suicide Squad.

The news of Leto's Joker movie going forward all-but-confirms the strategy. "Suicide Squad" spinoff focusing on the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker.

Variety also reports that Leto and Warner Bros. are now looking for a screenwriter for the prospective film.

Joaquin Phoenix has been in talks to play the Joker in this movie. One movie will be the origin story, while Jared Leto's will focus on the partly established character that we saw glimpses of during Suicide Squad.

This marked the third instalment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), and according to Variety, Leto is set to reprise his supervillain role in what could be the first of many films to branch off of the DC Comics' antihero team.

It's unknown at this time where in Warner Bros. and DC's film release timeline any of these movies will take place, let alone the DCEU's canonical timeline. Leto's "Suicide Squad" incarnation was more cruel and self-assured, sporting slicked-back hair, face tattoos, and silver-capped fangs.

This Joker standalone is now searching for a writer, and it's not clear when it would start filming.
