Video shows cop punching woman on New Jersey beach, mayor reacts

New Jersey cops tackle mother Emily Weinman for drinking

Police bodycam footage of a woman who was punched in the head by an officer on a beach in the U.S. shows she was told "you're about to get dropped" and slammed to the ground after refusing to tell him her surname.

When asked by a reporter if Weinman deserved to be punched, Troiano said she was "out of control".

"They asked her to give a breathalyzer; she did it not once, but twice", Dicht said.

In the ensuing scuffle, Weinman claims the officer is choking her.

Police say Weinman was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated assault by spitting bodily fluids at/on a police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstruction and minor in possession of alcohol. In the meantime, the officers involved in the incident have been reassigned to administrative duty.

"Alright, you're about to get dropped", the officer says before the video cuts out because Weinman hits him in the chest, knocking the body camera.

"No, let go of me", she screams.

Weinman is then seen spitting in the general direction of the officers.

As the officer approaches her, Weinman puts her hands up and appears to touch the camera, and then the video turns off.

Jersey's police department released bodycam footage showing the dramatic arrest of a woman on a beach during Memorial Day weekend. The alcohol belonged to her aunt, Weinman explained sternly but calmly, and she was on her way back. "At that moment, he told me that if I did not give it to him, he would stop me", she added. Here it seems that two large male officers may have used excessive force on a younger woman to effectuate the arrest. "I keep hearing this, you know, 'She's just a woman she's just a woman.' She's a combatant at that point". "I was partly wrong in a way but I was scared". She wouldn't give me her last name, so I said, 'Hey, if you're not going to give me your information, you're going to be locked up'.

She says she failed a breathalyser test, but denied she had been drinking the contents of the bottle she had on her.

"You're not allowed to hit me and choke me like that", Weinman shouts. "She tried to tell us it was okay for her to possess alcohol and that doesn't make any sense". After an officer asks for her last name, she becomes angry, telling him, "I didn't do anything to get written up, did I?" She tried kicking at us, so I slammed her on the ground. Troiano told Philly.com Tuesday that they were Class II officers hired for the summer season.
