British Transport police said its officers also responded to the call, though the force could not immediately offer further details.

A "minor" explosion at an underground train station in London late Tuesday left 5 people injured, none seriously, British police said, adding that the incident appeared to be caused by an electrical short circuit.

A small number of people have been treated at the scene.

Police have cordoned off the Southgate tube station after reports of the explosion. "We are not aware of any serious injury".

People are being asked to avoid the area.

Witnesses described smelling "burning rubber" and seeing "six-foot flames" at the entrance to Southgate underground station in Enfield. I was outside the station about to enter the 125 bus.

Cordons are in place and the station is closed.

A London Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called today at 19:02 BST to an incident at Station Parade, N14".

Police are now investigating the incident.

It later wrote that "enquiries continue but we do not believe this to be terror-related at this time".

"The scene has been examined by specialist officers".

Enquires are ongoing to establish the "full facts", a Met spokesman added.
