Oxfam launches campaign to beat plastic pollution in Pakistan

World Environment Day 2018 India is the global host this year and the theme is Beat Plastic Pollution

Celebrated on 5 June every year, this year's World Environment Day efforts are focused on reducing plastic usage. "We want to foster a global movement where every individual, policy maker and business takes action against plastic pollution to protect our ecosystem", Qazilbash said. To help reduce waste and fight climate change, the Government of Canada has taken significant steps and is planning important new measures to protect the environment and promote clean growth, here at home and overseas.

CBN to recycle polymer notes to flower pots, dustbins, others - As part of its contribution to a safe environment, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has resolved to recycle polymer bank note wastes into plastics such as flower pots and dustbins.

"These companies have drawn a line in the sand, pledging to do their bit to stem the tide of plastic waste and plastic pollution", Ms Sage said.

"Refuse what you can't re-use".

Minister of State for Environment Mahesh Sharma said that while Rs 350 crore was spent last year, this year Rs 650 crore was send to states under the environment protection programme. On this World Environment Day, let's take responsibility for our actions which cause any form of pollution. New data from waste and brand audits conducted in five Philippine cities confirm results of earlier coastal clean-up audits that multinational brands are the country's top sources of plastic pollution.

Setting up an example for everyone on World Environment Day, a family from Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district has shun plastic bags to keep the planet clean and green.

Every year, June 5 is observed as World Environment Day and people could adopt simpler things to reduce the planet's vulnerability. Single use or disposable plastics are used only once before they are thrown away or recycled.

Addressing World Environment Day Event here, Mr Modi said, India's culture is living in harmony with nature. These projects are either start-up or pre-existing enterprises and include Buy-Back Centres, Material Recovery Facilities, Construction & Demolishing solutions as well as plastic palletisation plants.

"At one month post launching this initiative, we saw a drop in the dry waste accumulation from 190 kgs to 100 kgs".

We might create plastic pollution, but if we work together, we can help end it, too. Environment Ministers, representatives from United Nations and members from various industry bodies were among the various dignitaries who attended the event. This year's WOD theme is: Preventing plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean.

If no action is taken, this is expected to increase to two per minute by 2030 and four per minute by 2050 (World Wildlife Federation, 2018).
