IPL betting: Arbaaz Khan confesses his involvement

From the last six years, actor Arbaaz Khan, brother of Superstar Salman Khan, is said to be placing bets on IPL teams. As per recent reports, Malaika Arora rushed to Galaxy apartment to meet Arbaaz Khan post the interrogation on IPL betting scam by Anti Extortion Cell Thane.

Khan allegedly lost around Rs 2.80 crore to a bookie Sonu Jalan, alias Sonu Batla, who was arrested on May 15 for allegedly running a betting run in India and overseas.

Later the City Police issued summon to the actor for recording his statement on Saturday in connection with the betting racket. Jalan was arrested for operating an IPL betting racket by Anti Extortion Cell of Thane Police Crime Branch on May 30.

During the investigation, a "connection" between Jalan and Mr. Khan was established, said Pradeep Sharma, Senior Inspector and head of the AEC, on Friday.

Arbaaz confessed that "Betting was his hobby", and also confirmed the "D" bookie link. "I am cooperating with the investigation". The two are said to have known each other for over five years.

The police have managed to corroborate Jalan's claims with the handwritten notes found in his personal diary.

Today, during Arbaaz Khan's questioning, he was brought face-to-face with Sonu Jalan. Jalan reportedly worked for a bookie who goes by the name "Junior Kolkata". Subsequently, too there was a huge transaction between Jalan and Khan. The bookie has placed any allegations against Arbaaz and with regards to the money he owes him but none of it has been confirmed yet.

"Apparently, Khan was blackmailed into paying crores, the threat being that his gambling habit would be exposed", an official said.

"Actor Arbaaz Khan placed bets during one of the past IPL seasons through Jalan".
