Ex-FBI deputy McCabe wrote memo on Comey firing

McCabe Gave Mueller a Secret Memo that Could Contain Crucial Information About Trump Firing Comey: Report

On Wednesday night, The New York Times first reported that the former Deputy FBI Director, Andrew G. McCabe, authored a confidential memo from last spring which claimed that President Trump had asked the Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein, to refer to the Russian Federation investigation as a reason for the firing of FBI Director James Comey.

Mueller's inquiry has since expanded to include whether Trump sought to obstruct the investigation by firing Comey.

Oh for Pete's sake.

His team is investigating whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election and whether the president sought to obstruct that inquiry through actions including the firing of Comey last May.

Rosenstein's memo took aim at Comey for his handling of the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server while secretary of state. Trump tweeted. "The Corrupt Mainstream Media loves to keep pushing that narrative, but they know it is not true!" Still, one consideration lingers: It takes an incredible level of shamelessness to say something on national TV, then act like it never happened.

The president has dubbed the revelations of the Federal Bureau of Investigation informant as "SPYGATE" and called it "one of the biggest political scandals in US history". And, according to a person with direct knowledge of the contents of the letter, it conveyed Trump's displeasure that Comey would not say publicly what he had told the president three times privately: that the FBI's probe into Russia's interference in the 2016 election was not focused on him.

Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani defended the president's attacks against Mueller and labeled the investigation "illegitimate" during an interview with CNN that was broadcast Sunday. If Trump fired James Comey over the investigation, that would very likely constitute obstruction of justice.

Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe appears before a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing about the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., June 7, 2017. "He's entitled to that. Actually, he couldn't get that". The office has also spent about $750,000 on travel, almost all of which went toward temporary duty costs for Justice Department employees on loan to the Mueller investigation.

The source said the memo has since been turned over to Justice Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who was appointed to manage the investigation past year following Attorney General Jeff Sessions' decision to recuse himself. As of 2018, USA attorney salaries were capped at a little over $164,000, according to the department's pay scale.
