English bulldog Zsa Zsa wins ugliest dog contest

Champion Zsa Zsa an English Bulldog is carried by owner Megan Brainard during the World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma Marin Fair on Saturday

Going into this year's World Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, Linda Elmquist of Tucson, Arizona, had high hopes that her dog could make another run at the title.

Some of this year's contestants had hairless bodies, others had lolling tongues.

The dogs walk down a red carpet and are evaluated by a panel of judges, with the victor taking home $1500.

The dog's owner Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, will receive $US1500 ($A2015) for Zsa Zsa's win. Josie finished third in the contest and Scamp, a dog owned by Yvonne Morones of Santa Rosa, finished second among the 14 dogs that competed.

Last year a three-year old Neopolitan Mastiff named Martha took the crown. She was almost blind from neglect when she was rescued in Sonoma County, California. But you can take a stroll down memory lane right here if you'd like to treasure her 125 pounds of sagging skin folds and love all over again.

Other cuties in competition included a stylish Chinese Crested named Rascal Deux and Pekingese named Wild Thang.

The competition is now in its 30th year.
