Wayne Rooney reportedly agrees to 'deal in principle' to join DC United

Wayne Rooney happy at Everton – Sam Allardyce dismisses claims striker is ‘frustrated’ with role at Goodison Park

British soccer player Wayne Rooney looks set to join MLS side D.C. United from English team Everton, in a deal worth nearly $17 million.

The agreement, which runs to the end of the MLS season in 2020, is yet to be signed, but SSN understands it would take a significant change of heart by Rooney and his family to stop the transfer going ahead.

He only returned to Goodison Park last summer, but Wayne Rooney's second spell at Everton seems to be over already with reports suggesting he has agreed a £12 million transfer to the MLS.

At United, Rooney won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup and was named Footballer of the Year in 2010.

But for Rooney, who is 32-years-old with a lot of miles on his legs, a move to MLS could be an opportunity to revitalize his career.

DC United are now rock-bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference table with five points from seven games.

More news: Liverpool's Joe Gomez out of Champions League final, World Cup

Earlier this week, Allardyce said Rooney wants to stay and dismissed suggestions England's record goalscorer is frustrated with his role.

England's all-time leading scorer only re-joined the Toffees last summer after spending 13 seasons with Manchester United, and now has one year left on his Goodison Park contract.

He's figured 31 times for them in the Premier League so far this season, bagging 10 times in total.

Under the current boss, Sam Allardyce, Rooney has fallen out of favour, finding it tough to gain regular minutes on the pitch in the first-team.

Rooney reacted angrily to being substituted against Liverpool in a 0-0 draw last month and is the club's top scorer with 11 goals but hasn't found the back of the net since December.
